Tahiti ended up being a really nice stop for us all. It’s definitely the biggest city we’ve come across in a long time and we weren’t disappointed. We really thought it might have tacky tourist feel but it really maintained the chill Polynesian vibes we’ve come to love.

After arriving to our first Tuamotu of Raroia, we got into the swing of things. We were so grateful to have a calm, protected anchorage, and to always be looking out at that clear turquoise water. Our confidence of swimming with sharks was also going up, as they were an everyday sighting.

Arriving in French Polynesia after three weeks at sea felt like such an accomplishment. We tucked into the bay at Hiva Oa and there was enough room for us to stern tie near the beach. It was so nice to celebrate a little bit and tidy up and then have a good rest. The next few days consisted of us putting the boat back in order , walking, back-and-forth to town, checking into the country and getting all sorts of other ducks in a row.

And just like that, we’ve made it! After three weeks at sea in the open ocean, we’ve cited land in French Polynesia! We’ve had a few ups and downs (pardon the pun), but overall this has been a really successful passage. We’ve certainly heard of people having smoother passages, but we’ve heard of a lot worse as well. We’re sliding ourselves somewhere directly in the middle.

So, we have officially checked out of the country of Mexico! We have been here for nearly 4 months and man, have we seen and learned a lot. We are really grateful that the checkout process went smoothly and now it’s time to keep moving on.

We were lucky to be able to spend almost 2 weeks tucked into a bay with good friends on family boat called Nike. It was such a sweet season of doing life together every day, and we got into a rhythm of daily tasks in the morning, often followed by an afternoon snorkel, and then finishing the day off with dinner together. It was great to be able to share so many meals, and memories together, especially for the kids to have some friends around, and especially some teenager time.

After spending a good long while in La Paz, and sending my mom off back to Canada, it felt time to go and do some more exploring. As we were watching the weather, we could see that some strong wind was coming in and we wanted to make sure we were in a safe place to ride that out. A friend had mentioned that there was another Canadian boat with two teen boys that was in the area and she encouraged us to connect with them, so we did. They were in a great spot to ride out the wind so we started to...

We started our track early to Cabo with a nice amount of wind, and we were even able to make a batch of cinnamon buns while underway. We had some nice buddy boats along for the ride, and we could keep an eye on each other as we all head towards Cabo.

We made it to Mexico! After a smooth and windless overnight passage from San Diego, we entered Ensenada in the morning after the most non-eventful passage ever. The only way to check into Ensenada is by tucking into a marina, as there’s no option to anchor anywhere. We chose to stay at Marina Coral , and we’re glad we did. They were all super helpful with all the check-in paperwork and documentation and they even took us to the customs office and stood with us every step of the way so we...

We left Morro Bay on another foggy California morning. We waved to so many rafts of sea otters, and then made our way out into the big gray sea. So far the Californian coast has been way more gray than we ever expected, and it’s been wearing on us all a little in different ways. We’re all still really excited to get towards Mexico, but it seems about 1,000,000 miles away through all of this fog.
